Happy Diwali ...
Saturday, 2 November 2013
Deepavali is also called the "festival of lights". It is a five-day Hindu festival which falls between mid-October and mid-November. Here in Singapore, the Serangoon Road is already full of lights since two weeks ago.
For India people in Singapore, those who are Hindus, Deepavali is one of the most important festivals of the year. It is celebrated in families. All family members get together and perform traditional activities in their homes. They also go to the temple together.
Today, 2 November 2013, Little India or at the area of Serangoon Road in Singapore, for sure, will be very crowded because of this celebration. All schools, universities, offices, & public libraries are close today. Even some some schools & universities extend one more day of holiday for Monday to respect those who celebrate Deepavali.
So, happy long weekend, and again, Happy Deepavali Day.
Be blessed and be blessing.
Cheers,
Natalia C.

Did you mean area around Boon Keng MRT station? I did stay on Serangoon Rd (St Michael's Rd) on that day, but nowhere nearby saw all those ornaments... Yet, it is true... so many Indians live there as Little India is in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteActually, MOM declares that in any case a major public holiday falls on Sunday, a following Monday will be gazetted as a public holiday.
Dear Kak Shirley,
ReplyDeleteThe Serangoon Road is close to Little India MRT station. The Boon Keng MRT is after Farrer Park one...so I thought there were not that kind of lights.
Actually, Singapore government had announced that the Deepavali Day moved forward to Saturday, not Sunday anymore. That was why, we had public holiday last Saturday, Kak.
Thank you for your sharing, Kak.
Cheers,
